As your doula, I will accompany you in labor to help ensure a safe and satisfying birth experience. I am a Registered Nurse, trained and certified by Doulas of North America (DONA), taught Childbirth Preparation classes at Kaiser Santa Rosa for five years, and now teach privately. I have two daughters, one born in hospital and the other at home. I draw on my knowledge and experience to provide emotional and physical support and, as needed, communication with staff to make sure that you have the information you need to make informed decisions as they arise in labor. I can provide reassurance and perspective to you and your partner, make suggestions for labor progress, and help with relaxation, massage, positioning and other techniques for comfort. I am independent and self-employed. As your doula, I am working for you, not your caregiver or hospital.
Once you have chosen me as your doula, I will meet with you and your partner once or twice before the birth to discuss your birth plan, your relaxation preferences, and your view of my role in your labor. I will also be available by phone to answer questions and consult with you along the way. When you are in labor, I will join you at home or the hospital, whenever you are ready for the extra support, and stay with you until an hour or so after your baby is born. I will meet with you and your baby 7-10 days postpartum to talk over the birth, and congratulate you on your beautiful baby and a job well done!
